Windham Hill Pianist Liz Story

As one of the most distinctive female composers and solo pianists of new instrumental music that emerged in the 1980s, Liz Story is lauded for combining influences of contemporary jazz and classical genres. The Grammy nominee is one of the most successful Windham Hill recording artists, producing 10 albums with Sony Music and scores of tracks for the popular Winter’s Solstice collections. Liz’s performance, originally scheduled for January 2024, is a celebration of her 40-year career.

An Evening with Joan Osborne

Joan Osborne is an eight-time Grammy nominee and multi-platinum recording artist. The Kentucky native moved to New York to attend NYU Film School but dropped out after gravitating to the music scene. Her 1995 album Relish was a critical and commercial success, spawning the international hit “What If God Was One of Us.” Along the way, she directed her videos, designed her artwork, recorded 14 albums, and founded the Womanly Hips record label. Osborne has followed her musical heart, exploring a rich range of genres—including pop, rock, soul, R&B, blues, roots, gospel, funk, and country—taking her across the globe to entertain audiences.

Fisk Jubilee Singers

For 153 years, the Fisk Jubilee Singers have toured the globe. They were featured in The American Experience, a PBS award-winning television documentary series in a program titled "Singers: Sacrifice and Glory." The chorus has received three Grammy nominations, won a Dove Award, and received the National Medal of Arts presented by President George W. Bush. Over the past 20 years, they have recorded alongside Johnny Lang, Neil Young, Van Morrison, Danny Glover, Hank Williams Jr., Faith Hill, and Shania Twain, just to name a few. Their transcendent ability to unite genres and people makes them an inspiration to all who witness their live performances.

The Sporkful Podcast Live with Dan Pashman
January 16, 2025, 7:00 p.m.  |  $35

The country’s number one food podcast will be making its Memphis debut live on the Buckman stage, with a special guest from right here in the Mid-South! Join Dan Pashman, three-time James Beard Award-winning host of The Sporkful and inventor of the viral cascatelli pasta shape, for a live taping of the podcast that Dan says is "not for foodies, it's for eaters." The show uses humor and humanity to approach food from many angles, including science, history, identity, culture, economics, and lengthy debates on the best way to layer a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Dan is also the author of the recent best-selling cookbook Anything's Pastable: 81 Inventive Pasta Recipes for Saucy People. Inspired by the response to cascatelli, which was named one of Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of the Year, the book will be sold at the event by local bookstore Novel, and Dan will be available to sign copies after the show.

Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. & The Legendary Ils Sont Partis Band

Carrying on his late, great father’s legacy with Buckwheat Zydeco Jr. & The Legendary Ils Sont Partis Band, Sir Reginald Dural continues the tradition of this celebrated sound. Growing up at his side, he shared the stage with a host of rock and pop musicians, including Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, U2, Willie Nelson, Robert Plant, and Keith Richards. His 2023 Grammy and Emmy Award-winning band has performed over 2,500 shows and appeared on David Letterman, CBS Morning News, and Good Morning America. The Creole cousin of jazz, Zydeco brings audiences to their feet and dancing to the aisles, no matter their age or ability. Buckwheat Zydeco wrote the book and set the standard for this Louisiana, toe-tapping genre.
